چکیده
Abstract Objective The safety of the United States donor blood supply has been questioned in context recreational marijuana legalization Colorado and other states nationwide. It is unclear whether cannabis use by donors presents a danger to recipients, either through direct toxicity or socioeconomic ramifications. Our objectives are both determine if active metabolite tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), 11-nor-9-carboxy-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (9-carboxy-THC), present donated units dosage high enough impact recipient assess for in-unit metabolism degradation. Methods We will quantify amount 9-carboxy-THC platelet self-reported users liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) testing correlate assay data survey responses. To gain insight into stability, we also test whole at several time points throughout storage, collected from participants who self-report taking known oral dose THC prior donation. Results Institutional review board approval study evaluating children’s hospital presented challenge, requiring addition an organizational risk update transfusion consent approval. Thus, projected timeline this extended. Study recruitment flyers email screening have generated interest volunteer donors. was sent 9,208 had previously least once, which received 372 responses (4.04% response rate). Of respondents, 49 individuals reported daily use, 33 usage 4-6 times per week, 32 1-3 times/week, 30 times/month, 52 rare usage, 167 never using marijuana. Overall, out over 50% some 31% weekly usage. Although number small, our found that many were repeat Research visits currently being scheduled interested participants. Conclusions This highlights challenges performing research illustrates why there lack published effects legalization. completion project investigating controversial topic delayed, persistent advocation area opening doors future studies hopefully pave way fill knowledge gaps. results inform decisions regarding eligibility national as well address associated implications.

Urinary excretion profiles of 11-nor-9-carboxy-D-tetrahydrocannabinol Study III. A D-THC-COOH to creatinine ratio study
Huestis and Cone reported in [J. Anal. Toxicol. 22 (1998) 445] that serial monitoring of D-THC-COOH/creatinine ratios in paired urine specimens collected at least 24 h apart could differentiate new drug use from residual D-THC-COOH excretion following acute marijuana use in a controlled setting. The best accuracy (85.4%) for predicting new marijuana use was for a D-THC-COOH/creatinine ratio 0.5...

Urinary excretion profiles of 11-nor-9-carboxy-delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol in humans after single smoked doses of marijuana.
Interpretation of marijuana-positive urine tests requires an understanding of the excretion pattern of marijuana metabolites in humans. However, limited urinary excretion data from controlled clinical studies of marijuana use are available. In this study, six subjects smoked a single marijuana cigarette (placebo, 1.75% delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol [THC], or 3.55% THC) each week while residing o...

Synthetic ∆ 9 -tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), pharmaceutical grade herbal cannabis as well as formulations of well-defined cannabis extracts are available as registered medicines in several countries. It is generally accepted that the main central and peripheral pharmacological effects of THC are mediated by CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors. Cytochrome P450-mediated oxidations of THC afford the n...
